An exceptional evening of song featuring two outstanding musical personalities took place on 24 September 2026 at the concert hall of Haus Marteau in Lichtenberg. Pianist Yaara Tal and tenor Christoph Prégardien presented a demanding programme featuring works by Franz Schubert, Gustav Mahler and Franz Liszt. At the heart of the evening was the finely balanced musical partnership between Yaara Tal and Christoph Prégardien. Tal was not merely an accompanist, but an equal musical partner, shaping the piano parts with great sensitivity and expressive depth. Her highly nuanced playing, virtuosity and exceptional sense of atmosphere brought a distinctive intensity to each of the works.

The first half of the programme was devoted to selected songs by Franz Schubert. Works such as Die Forelle, Auf dem Wasser zu singen and Ständchen showcased the full range of Schubert’s art of song. Yaara Tal’s subtle playing and Prégardien’s expressive interpretation combined to create a remarkably cohesive musical experience.

After the interval, the programme continued with Gustav Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and selected songs by Franz Liszt. Here in particular, Yaara Tal demonstrated her outstanding interpretative skills, shaping the piano parts with an impressive combination of richness, delicacy and emotional depth.

In the special atmosphere of Haus Marteau, the evening developed into a concert of great intimacy and musical intensity. The audience responded with prolonged and enthusiastic applause for Yaara Tal and Christoph Prégardien.

Michael Thumser writes in the Hochfranken-Feuilleton:

“The song recital, for which Christoph Prégardien joined forces with pianist Yaara Tal, was underpinned by a carefully considered dramaturgy, both in terms of music history and emotional impact.”

“Moving from Schubert to Mahler and his Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, which are more commonly known in their orchestral version, her touch does not seek the spaciousness of symphonic sound. On the contrary, she holds back all the more lightly and sparingly. In doing so, she independently supports the singer in giving the four chapters of this small love story a credible sense of intimacy rather than heartache.”

The duo will give another concert on 11 November 2026 at the Kulturraffinerie K714 in Monheim.
