New General Management: Marc André

We are very pleased to announce that we have taken over the worldwide general management of French double bassist Marc André !

Marc André is revolutionising the double bass, elevating it beyond its traditional role as an accompaniment and orchestral instrument. With his clear, bright and warm tone, he gives the instrument a soloist’s presence and makes it sing on stage:

Marc Andrés’ performances are characterised by a natural feel for musical phrasing, tonal purity and emotional depth.

He demonstrates this impressively on his debut album “Mirage”, released by Warner Classics. The album’s stylistic diversity allows him to showcase the many facets of his instrument and to unfold a wide range of timbres.

Marc André commissioned the violin maker Jean Auray from Lyon to build him a double bass tailored to his specific tonal preferences. The four strings are tuned higher than usual, and a fifth, higher string further extends the range, thereby opening up a broader repertoire.

Through his own arrangements and contemporary compositions, he also continues to enrich the double bass repertoire.

The fact that Marc André is able to inspire others to take up the double bass is demonstrated not least by his enormous media reach: more than 336,000 followers on Instagram and 2.4 million likes on TikTok speak for themselves!
