Yesterday (22.06.22) Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti made her debut with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin in the Konzerthaus Berlin with Szymanowski's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 1 op. 35. At the podium was the orchestra's first guest conductor, the American Karina Cannellakis, who is already a well-established team with Nicola Benedetti. The critic Andreas Göbel of RBB - Kultur - Radio is thrilled that Nicola Benedetti has chosen this very rarely performed and technically highly demanding piece for her debut and plays it from memory. Among other things, he speaks of "a violin tone to melt away", "whole stretches in the highest register, with each note deliberately placed" - "a single treat". You can hear the whole review here.
