Baroque music comes to life through intense emotions. And what feeling could ignite musical passion more than jealousy? The Italian word Gelosia serves as the title of Philippe Jaroussky’s new album – just as it was a recurring theme for the great Baroque poet and librettist Pietro Metastasio three centuries ago, who often set it for a solo cantata throughout the 18th century. La Gelosia is richly ornamented in the version by the Neapolitan composer Nicola Porpora, while it is wrapped in classical elegance by his later Venetian colleague Baldassare Galuppi. With his signature unrestrained virtuosity, Jaroussky presents these two long-forgotten masterpieces as world premiere recordings.
