Today, yesterday's concert from the Berlin Philharmonie, in which Nicola Benedetti interpreted Karol Szymanowski's Violin Concerto N°2 together with the DSO Berlin conducted by Stéphane Denève, can be heard on Deutschlandfunk Kultur:

The Scottish violinist described the piece as follows:

"Szymanowski was fascinated all his life by mystical things, by stories and mythical narratives conceived by a larger collective. In terms of interpretation, you have to realise the rawness of the sound that comes from the melodies and rhythms - the violin is clearly taken out of its classical contexts to express something cruder. This has a very liberating effect when I emphasise these expressive values. At the same time, the concerto is technically difficult, violinistically it's a challenge, for sure."

Have fun listening!
