Marc André Releases Debut Album Mirage on Warner Classics
French double bassist Marc André presents his debut album Mirage on Warner Classics. Featuring a diverse programme of works by Antonín Dvořák, Astor Piazzolla, Tomaso Albinoni, Christoph Willibald Gluck, Claude Debussy, Robert Schumann and other composers, the 23-year-old musician showcases the remarkable sonic possibilities of his instrument.
With Mirage, Marc André pursues a clear artistic vision: to reveal the double bass as a singing solo instrument. Through his distinctive sound – clear, luminous and warm – he places the instrument firmly in the spotlight as a solo voice.
“It is indeed a challenge, and that probably has something to do with my rebellious streak. I have always loved playing with fire, breaking conventions and following my instincts rather than reason.” (Marc André, booklet text for Mirage, Warner Classics)
Alongside guitarist Gabriel Bianco, the album also features Marc André’s mother, the pianist Véronique Patricia Teruel. Together they explore a programme ranging from Dvořák’s Songs My Mother Taught Me and Debussy’s Clair de lune to Morricone’s Cinema Paradiso and Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango. The stylistic breadth of the album allows Marc André to highlight the many facets of the double bass and reveal a wide spectrum of colours and expressive possibilities.
The young musician has already attracted significant attention through social media, where he is followed by more than 327,000 people on Instagram.
Further insights into the album can be found in interviews with BR-Klassik and radio3, where Mirage was featured as “Album der Woche(Album of the Week)”.
“Marc André’s debut album Mirage demonstrates that the double bass truly has all the qualities of a solo instrument. He shapes every note with great nuance. With a soft, elegant bow stroke and a warm sound, he lets the long melodic lines float effortlessly. Everything is guided by the spirit of singing.” (Imke Griebsch, radio3, 27 April 2026)
“When you swim against the current, it is not easy – but that is precisely where the beauty lies.” (Marc André, interviewed by Gino Thanner, BR-Klassik, ‘Meine Musik’, 2 May 2026)
