Flashback: David Garrett on Tour with the Sinfonieorchester Basel

Violin star  David Garrett was on tour in March as a soloist with the Sinfonieorchester Basel. Under the baton of Dennis Russell Davies, the concerts featured the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D Major, Op. 35 by Peter Tchaikovsky. At every stop along the tour, Garrett was given a rapturous reception by audiences and showered with exultant applause. The press was also fully impressed by the interpretation of the violin concerto:

  “The highest notes were absolutely clean, the runs and glissandi in the cadenza of the first movement were polished and in the Finale, the contrast between the lounging, sanded down low notes and the fun-fluffy flageolet tones was captivating. Also commendable: The dense sound towards the end of the Finale as the violinist almost played himself into a fury until the orchestra with its marching rhythm took over the reigns. One experienced not only a technically-confident soloist but a keenly-expressive one as well.” (Basler Zeitung, March 17th, 2017)

[…] Davies, together with his very attentively-responsive orchestra, flexibly caters to the violin star's rhythmical idiosyncrasies.
