Thibaut Garcia - Album release of "El Bohemio"

"Flowing, clear interpretations", Gramophone Magazine said of Thibaut Garcia's guitar playing as well as "an irresistible tension between the sparkling articulation of the lighter movements and the abrupt lift of the more dramatic passages". The guitarist, born in Toulouse, has already won numerous international prizes such as the Diapason dʼOr and the Choc de Classica in addition to the Gramophone Award. Thibaut Garcia now dedicates his album El Bohemio to the Paraguayan composer and guitarist Agustín Barrios.

Thibaut Garcia describes Barrios' musical style as a "skilful combination of South American folk music with the romanticism of Chopin and Schumann". And so El Bohemio includes a total of 16 compositions by Agustín Barrios himself as well as three of his arrangements of famous classics: Chopin's Prélude Op. 28 No. 20, Schumann's Träumerei from the piano cycle Kinderszenen and an excerpt from Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. In addition, Thibaut Garcia complements the music album with poems by Barrios. The poem Bohemio gave the album its name. In it, Barrios portrays himself as a wandering troubadour. Another poem by the composer, who died in 1944, pays tribute to the indigenous people of Paraguay. And so the circle closes, because Thibaut Garcia emphasises: "Barriosʼ music is inspired by nature, the flora and fauna in Paraguay's jungle".

The album has been released by Erato / Warner Classics on 22 September 2023.
