Philippe Jaroussky: "Schubert Lieder"
Philippe Jaourssky presents his new CD Schubert Lieder. Read some reviews here.
“Together with his pianist Ducros, he has skillfully put together a program in which the singer scores with his vocal strengths, such as melancholy legato arches, ethereal pianos (“Litanei auf das Fest aller Seelen”, D 343, “Du bist die Ruh”, D 776, “Des Fischers Liebesglück” D 933) or lyrical tenderness (“Die Forelle” D 882, “Nachtstück”, D 672). He can also phrase meaningfully and extemporize poetically and elegantly.”

“To the comfortingly calm piano playing of Jérôme Ducros, this is an admittedly somewhat monochrome but very special Schubert approach with its floating, ethereal timbre, the delicately whispering notes, eminently musical, honest, opaquely shimmering and beautiful to listen to. This glides on shimmering waves of song without too much drama and contrast. Here, a lyrical “I” floats along harmonizing without any real outbursts, embedded in longing melodiousness.”
