Julia Lezhneva and Concerto Köln can be experienced together this year in four performances of Handel's "Flavio, Re de' Langobardi" at Bayreuth Baroque, wonderfully staged by festival director and countertenor Max Emanuel Cenčić.
The BR Klassik premiere review was full of praise: "The feast of voices in this originally staged rediscovery is led by the grandiose Julia Lezhneva as Emilia, who offers her enormous creative palette, from ludicrous coloratura in hysterical fits of despair to deeply touching lyrical espressivo. The Concerto Köln, as the resident orchestra of this year's festival, exudes just the right energy under Benjamin Bayl's conducting, with which a good three hours of pure Handel is able to sweep along weightlessly."
