Focusing exclusively on French music written for the saxophone, the
program reflects a golden period when the instrument flourished in France. The
saxophone was immensely popular in France during this time, a legacy that continues
today among both musicians, composers, and audiences. Much of the finest repertoire
for the saxophone was penned by French composers, making this program a
celebration of that heritage.
The repertoire is thoughtfully curated to include both renowned works by famous
composers like Georges Bizet and Darius Milhaud, as well as hidden gems by lessknown
composers such as Alfred Desenclos and Paule Maurice, the latter of whom
adds a refreshing dimension as a female composer. This colourful and varied program
combines beautiful melodies and lush harmonies with just the right touch of
virtuosity, offering an engaging listening experience for both connoisseurs and new
audiences.
